The Perene district is also known as the "city of the three plateaus", it is located within the province of Chanchamayo that is part of the Junín region and was created as a district on January 13, 1886.
Perene has a unique beauty, due to its main river called as the same city: Perene, and its beautiful but well known waterfall "Velo de Novia". More is its people who bring the weight of cultural identity because they are descendants of the majority of the Ashaninka ethnic group.
The fabrics and costume jewelery are the handicrafts preferred by those who come to visit, as they can take away beautiful memories characteristic of the place. However, the typical dishes of this central zone of the jungle like the Tacacho with cecina, the Frigate Maiden, the roaster of zamaño among others, are usually the delights that steal the heart of any inhabitant who comes through Perene.
